[Current CV]

Rachel is a nonfiction writer based in the New York area.
She has been serious about writing since the age of 6.

She is currently a candidate for a Master of Education in English Education (Ed.M.)
at Teachers College, Columbia University.  In 2014, Rachel received an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence College. Rachel also holds a BA in English from the City University of New York.  As an undergraduate, she served as news editor of her college newspaper, Pandora’s Box, and also established, edited
and designed a college-wide literary magazine.

Currently, Rachel is a writing lecturer at SUNY Purchase College.
She is a former Fellow of the Purchase College Writers Center for 2014-2015 and
has hosted a variety of nonfiction writing workshops for students. She is also the
faculty advisor of the Hip Hop Club. In 2016, the student organization
was deemed the most Outstanding Club
by the Purchase Student Government Association.

Rachel’s first master’s thesis, entitled “Love Thy Neighbor: Observations of Poverty + Homelessness in southwest Yonkers, NY,” is a series of interrelated profiles of Westchester and Yonkers’ officials, homeless people, and those who live and work in southwest Yonkers. While writing her thesis at Sarah Lawrence College, Rachel interned at The Sharing Community, a homeless shelter in downtown Yonkers, interviewing clients about their lives and circumstances. For those living in poverty, the challenges of meeting basic human needs are either dictated or ignored by the community. “Love Thy Neighbor” illustrates a graphic portrait of how this neighborhood in Yonkers sees–and fails to see–the problems in its midst. Portions of Rachel’s master’s thesis have been published online
via Untapped Cities and Litro Magazine.

Previously, Rachel has written for The Source Magazine, Ploughshares Literary Blog, Litro Magazine, and other publications. Rachel once served as deputy editor of Home Town Media Group, a small community newspaper company in southern New York. In her role as editor, she has written extensively about Westchester County – specifically the Sound Shore area – and has occasionally appeared on WVOX 1460AM to
discuss local community concerns.

Currently, Rachel is a member of the Nerve Writer’s Network.
